Know Your Bed Size To Get The Right Fitting Of Deep Pocketed Sheets

Deep pocketed sheets keep our bed sheets in place as much as possible, even as we sleep. The need to use this type of sheets arose when new types of mattresses came out in the market like those with detachable toppers or those with pillow tops. For serious home keepers, we would want to keep these beds as tidy as possible, at all times, and maintaining an evenly laid bed sheets is easier when using pocketed sheets.

When buying, one must know the specific size of the bed these sheets are to be used for. We normally hear the bed sizes as king, queen, single and double. There are more to these names, however. Like a king bed can either be a Standard King or a California King. Confusing, right? And based on our idea of a king being much higher than a queen in rank, then a king size bed must be bigger than a queen bed. Well you might be surprised to know that it is not always the case. Here are the sizes of mattresses available in the market and their exact measurements to help you determine the right size of sheets to buy:

Twin beds are also called single beds. They have an overall dimension of 39 inches wide and 75 inches long. These types of beds are most common in children’s rooms as this maybe too small for teens and adults.

Twin extra long beds are 39 inches wide and 80 inches in length so this is 5 inches longer than a standard twin bed. For cost efficiency, it is best to use this bed in children’s rooms so they may still be able to use it until their teen years.

The standard measurement of double or full size beds is 54 inches wide and the same length as a twin bed at 75 inches. Comparing a full size bed versus 2 twin beds and considering that full size beds are normally intended for two people while the twin size is for a single user, notice that a double only has 27 inches allotted for each person while twin has 39 inches per person.

Queen size beds have an overall dimension of 60 inches width and 80 inches long. Still, though this extra width and length can make all the difference in getting a good night’s sleep as compared to a double bed, the twin size bed holds a much bigger allotted area on a per person basis.

Standard King sized beds are also called Eastern King Beds. These are wider than queen size beds by 16 inches, but have the same length at 80 inches long. This is comfortable enough for two adults. Sheets that are specifically labeled for “King Size” normally fits the standard king size bed.

California King, also called Western King, came into the market due to the need of a longer bed size for taller people. The dimension for this bed size is 72 inches wide and 84 inches long.

Now that you are aware on bed sizes, the terms used to call them and their exact measurements; it will be easier for you to find the deep pocketed sheets right for your beds. You’re another step closer in achieving the most comfortable sleep you would want to have in your home.
